July is National Ice Cream Month and today is National Ice Cream Day! Let's be honest, ice cream deserves all the celebration. Our area has plenty of shops to treat yourself this month!

Mr. Freeze has been serving up the best in Northwest Ohio for 50 years. We all know how long the lines are on opening day, but it's well worth it! You can browse Mr. Freeze's menu here to save time.
You can't miss Mr. G's Barn (that really looks like a barn) on the corner of Hill Ave and N McCord Road. The portions are big but the prices are low! Mr. G's also serves chili dogs, nachos, pulled pork sandwiches, and chicken sandwiches.
Penguin Palace is the best spot to go for delicious ice cream and outdoor summer fun. The ice cream shop is located on River Road just across from Fort Miamis. It first opened in 1947 and was recently remodeled under new ownership.
Generals is located at the old Whitehouse Grain and Supply Company. Interesting fact: the grain scale is still on the premises because it was too heavy to move! The ice cream shop opened as Jacky's Depot in 1994 and changed to Generals in 2008. According to owner Brian Carroll, the name was changed to reflect the support that the business has for the schools and community.
Lickity Split is known for great ice cream and an extensive menu! You can stop into this south Toledo staple for burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and so much more. Finish it off with one of their many ice cream or frozen yogurt options.
Charlie's has a little bit of everything. Burgers, onion rings, fish and chips, and, of course, delicious ice cream cones, sundaes, shakes, and ice cream cakes! Also, feel free to bring your pup with you on their dog friendly patio. Charlie's even serves doggie sundaes!
Not only is Jacky's Depot one of the best ice cream shops in Maumee, it's a piece of history; the building is located in the old Inter-Urban Railroad Station in historic uptown. Jacky's was founded in 1986 and serves over 50 unique flavors.

Located on Lewis Ave near W Temperance Road, Scoop's is a highly rated hotspot in Southeast Michigan. In addition to ice cream treats, they also serve Dole Whip. Their flavors change often, so follow them on Facebook to see their current specials.
Dietsch Brothers has been named on lists of best ice cream shops all around the country! They're a family-run business that also serves Ohio-made candy.
